GroundSlate includes, or downloads to your Mac, the software and data listed here. Each is used under its own licence, and the full licence text is available from each project.
On-device AI
Gemma 4 is the model that watches your footage and writes its summaries. Apache License 2.0. The weights are not included in the app; they are downloaded to your own Mac during setup. https://ai.google.dev/gemma
Qwen3-VL is an alternative to Gemma 4 for the same job, and you can switch to it in Monitor → Models → Meta Tagging. Apache License 2.0. Like Gemma 4, the weights are not included in the app; they are downloaded to your own Mac only if you choose one. https://github.com/QwenLM/Qwen3-VL
The Preset voice portraits you see in AI Voice are generated images, made once for this app. They are not photographs of anyone, and no third-party image library is bundled.
MLX and MLX-VLM are Apple's array framework and the vision-language server that runs the model on your Mac. MIT License. https://github.com/ml-explore/mlx and https://github.com/Blaizzy/mlx-vlm
Transformers, Hugging Face Hub and Tokenizers are used by the model server. Apache License 2.0. https://github.com/huggingface
Ollama is an optional alternative engine. Not required, and not included: if you choose it, you install it yourself. MIT License. https://ollama.com
Gemma 3 is the vision model used when you choose the optional Ollama engine. Google's Gemma Terms of Use, which are separate from Ollama's licence and carry their own use restrictions. Not included in the app; downloaded to your own Mac if you select that engine. https://ai.google.dev/gemma/terms
Speech and faces
faster-whisper and CTranslate2 turn speech into text. MIT License. https://github.com/SYSTRAN/faster-whisper and https://github.com/OpenNMT/CTranslate2
Qwen3-TTS is the model that speaks. Every voice AI Voice creates, previews or reads a script with is generated by it, on your own Mac, and nothing you write is uploaded. Apache License 2.0. The weights are not included in the app; they are downloaded to your own machine the first time you need them. mlx-audio, the code that runs them, is under the MIT License, Copyright (c) 2024 Prince Canuma, and lives in GroundSlate's own Python folder in Application Support rather than inside the app. https://github.com/QwenLM and https://github.com/Blaizzy/mlx-audio
OpenVoice v2 is the converter behind the neural voice effects. It re-speaks a take you have already made as a deeper, brighter, older or younger version of the same voice, or as another voice entirely, and it does that on your own Mac with nothing uploaded. Both the model and the code that runs it are under the MIT License, free for commercial use. The weights are not included in the app; they are 125 MB, downloaded to your own machine from the Models page when you first ask for one of those effects. https://github.com/myshell-ai/OpenVoice
PyTorch, torchaudio and the wav2vec2-base-960h model are the optional word-perfect captions add-on, installed only if you turn it on. PyTorch and torchaudio are BSD-3-Clause; the model is MIT. https://pytorch.org
CMUdict, the Carnegie Mellon Pronouncing Dictionary, gives the lipsync tool its phonemes.
BSD-style licence (server/groundslate/data/cmudict.LICENSE, beside cmudict.dict and
cmudict.phones). Only the dictionary data is included, not the GPL-licensed cmudict Python
wrapper it was taken from (the data files shipped in v1.1.3 of that PyPI package).
https://github.com/cmusphinx/cmudict
OpenCV Zoo YuNet does face detection. MIT License. OpenCV Zoo SFace does face recognition. Apache License 2.0. https://github.com/opencv/opencv_zoo
The Python runtime
CPython runs GroundSlate's local server. If your Mac already has a suitable Python,
GroundSlate uses that one and downloads nothing. Otherwise it fetches a copy during setup and
keeps it in your Application Support folder, under the Python Software Foundation License,
whose text is included in that download as LICENSE.txt. That copy also includes OpenSSL
(Apache-2.0), Tcl/Tk and libedit (BSD-style), SQLite (public domain), and pip
(MIT), each under its own terms. Nothing in it is GPL-licensed; GroundSlate checks that on your
machine before it installs the runtime, and discards it if the check fails.
Maker marks
The small logos beside each model on the Monitor screen are drawn from simple-icons 16.28.0, released into the public domain under CC0-1.0. Four outlines are compiled into the app (Google DeepMind, Qwen, Meta, Mistral AI); no package is bundled and nothing is fetched while you use GroundSlate. The marks themselves are trademarks of their owners and are shown only to identify whose model is running on your Mac, beside that model's own name. Nothing here implies endorsement or affiliation. A maker whose real mark we do not have is shown with a plain GroundSlate glyph rather than an approximation. https://simpleicons.org
Three marks are not from that set and are the owners' own artwork, supplied to us and shown unaltered: the Gemma star, the Lightricks LTX wordmark and the Meta loop. Same terms: they are their owners' trademarks, shown to identify whose model is running on your Mac, and nothing here implies endorsement or affiliation.
Keeping GroundSlate up to date
Sparkle is the updater that checks for, downloads and installs new versions of GroundSlate. It is built into the app, under the MIT License. Copyright 2006-2013 Andy Matuschak, 2009-2013 Elgato Systems GmbH, 2011-2014 Kornel Lesiński, 2015-2017 Mayur Pawashe, and the other contributors named in its LICENSE. It carries bsdiff/bspatch (BSD 2-clause, Colin Percival), sais-lite (MIT, Yuta Mori) and ed25519 (zlib-style, Orson Peters), each under its own terms. https://github.com/sparkle-project/Sparkle
Sound made on this Mac
Stable Audio 3 generates the music and the sound effects that AI Audio makes. It runs entirely on your Mac and nothing you type or make is uploaded. The models are downloaded to your own machine at setup, from Stability AI's optimized-runtime repository, and are used under the Stability AI Community License:
This Stability AI Model is licensed under the Stability AI Community License, Copyright © Stability AI Ltd. All Rights Reserved
Powered by Stability AI.
The full agreement is installed alongside the weights as LICENSE.md, together with NOTICE and
LICENSE_GEMMA.md, and is also published at https://stability.ai/license. It permits commercial
use free of charge below one million US dollars of annual revenue; above that figure Stability
requires a separate licence.
T5Gemma, the text encoder that reads your prompt inside Stable Audio 3, is provided by Stability AI under and subject to the Gemma Terms of Use, found at https://ai.google.dev/gemma/terms. This is a different licence from the Gemma 4 model named elsewhere in this document.
The Stable Audio 3 MLX runtime, the inference code that runs those models on Apple silicon, is included in GroundSlate under the MIT License, Copyright (c) 2026 Stability AI. It is included exactly as Stability published it, with no GroundSlate edits to any of its files. https://github.com/Stability-AI/stable-audio-3
Video made on this Mac
LTX 2.5 generates the video that AI Video makes. It runs entirely on your Mac and nothing you
type or make is uploaded. The model is downloaded to your own machine, from the mlx-community
conversion of Lightricks' release, and is used under the LTX-2.x Community License, which is
not an Apache-2.0 licence and is not COEY's. GroundSlate shows you that licence and asks you to
accept it before any of it is downloaded.
The full agreement is installed alongside the weights as LICENSE.md, together with the LTX
acceptable use policy, and is published at
https://github.com/Lightricks/LTX-2/blob/main/LICENSE-2_x. It permits commercial use free of
charge below ten million US dollars of annual revenue; above that figure Lightricks requires a
separate licence. That condition applies to you, not to COEY, and only you can tell whether you
meet it. The acceptable use policy is part of that licence and applies to what you generate;
Section S5.7 of the GroundSlate Schedule sets out what it prohibits.
Video and rendering
FFmpeg reads and writes your video. This software uses libraries from the FFmpeg project under
the LGPLv2.1. The build included with GroundSlate is licensed LGPL-2.1-or-later: it is
configured without GPL components, and its libraries are dynamically linked and not renamed. It
prints that licence itself (ffmpeg -L), and the full licence text ships with the app as
COPYING.LGPLv2.1. If GroundSlate instead falls back to an FFmpeg you installed yourself, that
copy is governed by its own terms, not by these.
Source: the exact FFmpeg source each GroundSlate build was compiled from, together with the configure line used, is published alongside that build at https://github.com/coeyai/groundslate-oss/releases and is also available on request at opensource@coey.com. https://ffmpeg.org
COEY does not own FFmpeg and claims no rights in it.
Written offer. For three (3) years from the date you obtained your copy of GroundSlate, COEY will, on request to opensource@coey.com and for a charge no greater than COEY's cost of performing the distribution, provide the complete corresponding source code and the linkable components necessary to relink a modified version of any LGPL-licensed component included with GroundSlate. This offer is made to anyone who possesses a copy, and it covers the FFmpeg support libraries named below as well as FFmpeg itself. Your rights under the LGPL do not depend on the COEY Master Terms: Section 7 of those Terms says so, and where a third-party licence and those Terms conflict, the licence governs.
FFmpeg support libraries. The FFmpeg build above is accompanied by its own dependency libraries (libass and its chain: FreeType, FriBidi, HarfBuzz, Graphite2, GLib, gettext, libpng, libunibreak, PCRE2 and xz/lzma). Several of these are themselves LGPL. A per-library review of this set is still outstanding, so they are named here rather than listed with licences we have not yet verified; the source offer above covers them too.
occt-import-js reads STEP and IGES CAD files when you import one as a 3D prop. It is
licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 (LGPL-2.1), and it carries
Open CASCADE Technology, licensed under the LGPL-2.1 with the Open CASCADE exception, compiled
into it. GroundSlate ships version 0.0.23 as its authors publish it, as a separate, replaceable pair of files
(occt-import-js.js and occt-import-js.wasm, in the 3D engine kit's
vendor/occt-import-js/ folder) that is loaded only while an import runs; nothing of it is linked
into GroundSlate's own code, so you may replace those two files with your own build of the library.
Both licence texts ship beside them, with the Open CASCADE exception to the LGPL-2.1
(LICENSE-occt-lgpl-exception.txt, from Open CASCADE Technology 7.6.1). GroundSlate's STEP and IGES
import makes use of facilities provided by the Open CASCADE Technology software. The written offer above covers this library too.
https://github.com/kovacsv/occt-import-js and https://dev.opencascade.org
COEY does not own occt-import-js or Open CASCADE Technology and claims no rights in them.
Playwright drives the render engine. Apache License 2.0. https://playwright.dev
Chromium is the render engine that draws titles, captions and overlays. BSD-3-Clause, plus the licences of its own bundled components. https://www.chromium.org
OpenTimelineIO is what turns your edit into a timeline that Final Cut Pro and Premiere Pro can open. Apache License 2.0. GroundSlate installs it with exactly two of its format adapters: otio-fcpx-xml-adapter (Final Cut's FCPXML) and otio-fcp-adapter (Premiere's FCP7 XML), both Apache License 2.0. None of the others are installed, so nothing for AAF, Maya, SVG or the rest is on your Mac. All three live in GroundSlate's own Python folder in Application Support, not inside the app. https://opentimeline.io
fontTools reads a font's letter outlines so they can be set as 3D type. MIT License. skia-pathops merges the overlapping pieces of each letter so a 3D letter's face has no seams. BSD-3-Clause. Both live in GroundSlate's own Python folder in Application Support, not inside the app. https://github.com/fonttools/fonttools https://github.com/fonttools/skia-pathops
Data and type
GeoNames cities500 and GeoNames landmarks are the offline place-name data used to turn GPS coordinates into place labels, and to name the destination a clip was shot at rather than only the town containing it. City and landmark data © GeoNames, used under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC-BY 4.0), as derived subsets. No network lookup is performed. https://www.geonames.org
Montserrat is the typeface. SIL Open Font License 1.1. https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Montserrat
Model Context Protocol is the protocol GroundSlate speaks to your AI apps. MIT License. https://modelcontextprotocol.io
Model weights and any software you install yourself keep their own upstream terms in every case.
